Balance Bike Classes in Doncaster

If you’re considering signing your little one up but aren’t sure what to expect, read on to discover everything you need to know about our BALANCE bike classes.

When and Where?

  • Start Date: Saturday, 1st March 2024
  • Time: 10:00 - 10:40 AM
  • Location: Doncaster Dome Cycle Track

Price - Monthly subscription of £38/month for a 40m class each week.

Who Are The Classes Suitable For?

Our BALANCE bike class is perfect for children aged 18 months to 7 years. If your child is 7 or older and still using stabilisers, our 1;1 accelerate sessions are a popular way to fast track their learning & give them the confidence required to ride unaided. Email us on [email protected] to book.

Why Start On A Balance Bike?

Balance bikes simplify the learning process by focusing on two key skills: balancing and steering. By mastering balance first, children find it much easier to transition to pedalling later.

Once they’ve developed confidence, we add pedals, teaching them the pedalling motion and how to stop safely.

Why Choose Clancy Briggs?

Riding a bike should be fun, and learning to ride should be just as enjoyable!

As Clancy Briggs Coach Ali Slater explains:

“We create a fun environment where each group becomes its own little team. Seeing other kids at the same stage boosts confidence and helps them learn more quickly. It’s a fantastic way to develop their skills while having fun!”

Does My Child Need Their Own Bike?

We encourage all riders to bring their own bikes, we've found that they're usually most comfortable on these & the continuity in equipment helps them when practicing at home.
However we can provide both bikes and helmets for a small non-profit hire charge of £4 per session to cover wear and tear.

What Happens In A Lesson?

Each session is structured to ensure children build confidence and skills progressively. We start with essential basics, such as how to pick up the bike and get on properly.

Lesson Breakdown:

  • Off-the-bike activities: We work on gross motor skills and balance exercises that translate directly to cycling.
  • On-the-bike exercises: Youngsters practice gliding, steering, and balancing in a fun and engaging environment.
  • Teamwork and Social Learning: Children encourage each other, making learning an exciting and social experience.

Coach Ali Slater adds:

“The children always make friends—even the little ones! Seeing others improve inspires them to push themselves too.”

Parental Involvement

We encourage parents to support their children in the early stages. Once kids are confidently gliding with their feet off the ground, parents can step back and watch them progress!

When Will My Child Be Ready For Pedals?

This depends on their previous cycling experience. Some children pick it up within 2-3 sessions, while others progress over 6-8 sessions. By the end of their BALANCE journey, they’ll be pedalling confidently.

“Our goal is to get them pedalling independently, ready to move seamlessly into our PEDAL class, earning their ‘Medals for Pedals’ award,” says Ali Slater.

Should My Child Practice Between Sessions?

Absolutely! The more they practice, the faster they’ll improve. Encourage them to glide, pick up speed, and have fun between classes to reinforce their skills.
